Surface And Hypersurface Meshing Techniques for Space-Time Finite Element Methods

چکیده
A novel method is introduced for constructing two-dimensional (2D) surface meshes embedded in three-dimensional (3D) space time and 3D hypersurface four-dimensional (4D) time. In particular, we begin by dividing the space–time domain into slabs. Each slab equipped with an initial plane (hyperplane), conjunction unstructured simplicial (hypersurface) mesh that covers plane. We then obtain vertices of terminating (hyperplane) from using a trajectory-tracking approach. Next, these are used to create on (hyperplane). Thereafter, boundary stitched together form intermediate surfaces or sides slab. After describing this new mesh-generation rigorous detail, provide results multiple numerical experiments which demonstrate its validity flexibility.

Neighborhood-Based Element Sizing Control for Finite Element Surface Meshing
A method is presented for controlling element sizes on the interior of areas during surface meshing. A Delaunay background mesh is defined over which a neighborhood based interpolation scheme is used to interpolate element sizes. A brief description of natural neighbor interpolation is included and compared to linear interpolation. Two specific applications are presented that utilize the sizing...
متن کاملStabilized Space-Time Finite Element Formulations for Free-Surface Flows
Aspects of a method for 3D finite element computation of unsteady, incompressible freesurface flow are presented. The approach is based on the Deformable-Spatial-Domain/ Stabilized Space-Time (DSD/SST) finite element formulation, which takes automatically into account the deformation of the elements in response to the motion of the free surface. The free-surface elevation is governed by a kinem...
متن کاملAdaptive Space-Time Finite Element Methods for Parabolic Optimization Problems
In this paper we summerize recent results on a posteriori error estimation and adaptivity for space-time finite element discretizations of parabolic optimization problems. The provided error estimates assess the discretization error with respect to a given quantity of interest and separate the influences of different parts of the discretization (time, space, and control discretization). This al...
متن کاملSpace-time Finite Element Methods for Second-order Hyperbolic Equations*
Space-time finite element methods are presented to accurately solve elastodynamics problems that include sharp gradients due to propagating waves. The new methodology involves finite element discretization of the time domain as well as the usual finite element discretization of the spatial domain. Linear stabilizing mechanisms are included which do not degrade the accuracy of the space-time fin...
متن کاملSpace-Time Finite Element Methods for Dynamic Frictional Contact Problems
Space-time finite element methods for dynamic frictional contact problems are discussed in this article. The discretization scheme is based on a mixed formulation of the continuous problem, where the Lagrange multipliers represent the contact and frictional stresses. Using piecewise d-linear and globally continuous basis functions in space and time to construct the trial space for the displacem...
